Handfasting is a beautiful, symbolic marriage ceremony, or ritual, and is believed to span several cultures dating back thousands of years. However, it is widely accepted as being of ancient Celtic origin and a nature-related ritual with a spiritual tradition. The phrase "tying the knot" and the action of shaking someone's hand to agree something, are probably derived from this action of binding the couples hands together, often with coloured ribbon or cord to symbolize their union of love.
This handfasting cord measures 7 feet and is 1/2 an inch wide. I have adorned it with a Scottish thistle charm (#15), but you can choose any charm from the chart.
Blue is the colour of trust and loyalty. It has a calming effect that makes us feel confident and secure.
Magenta represents universal love at its highest level, the colour of the free spirit.
I have other colours of cord available and can customize your handfasting cord to suit you. Just indicate your selection at check out or send me a message.
All of my handfasting cords are made by me in a smoke free home. I do, however, have a lovely dog who is with me constantly. I endeavour to make sure that there are no dog hairs present, but they seem to float through air with minds of their own. If you find any, please forgive me. I tried.
